 The use of secondhand shopping apps, including Danggeun Market and Bungaejangter, hit an all-time high in South Korea thanks to both rising inflation and the increasing trend toward eco-friendly consumption. Consumers are turning to these platforms to reduce financial strain and support value-based purchases that promote sustainability.
According to data from mobile app analytics service Wiseapp Retail Goods on Tuesday, 33.78 million Korean smartphone users had installed secondhand trading apps as of August 2024, with 22.64 million actively using them - a record for both metrics. This means that more than six out of ten Korean smartphone users have these apps installed, and more than four out of ten are actively engaging with them.
The most popular secondhand app for August was Danggeun Market with 21.25 million users, followed by Bungaejangter with 4.68 million and Joonggonara with 1.68 million users.
